EqNet Horse Chat Help
Yes we all need help sometimes. Especially these darn chat
systems!
EqNET is based on the Internet Relay Chat
(IRC) protocol. All basic IRC commands work on EqNET. The Java
Chat client that many people use supports full color, the ability to
join multiple rooms and separate private message windows and sounds
to enjoy all the fun in a friendly chat environment.

EqNET Horse Chat Java Web
Chat Client
Here is a quick guide to help you understand the Java client
setup page.
When you connect to
http://irc.equestrianpages.com:8081
the full Java client will start to download, the download may
take awhile on dialup connections. It will prompt you
to accept the secure signed Java chat client from Webmaster, Inc. the author of
our chat software. Once you accept the security certificate, the java
client will automatically log you into our main #lobby chat room and ask you for
a Nickname. Enter the nickname you wish to use and you are online
and ready to chat!
| Nickname: |
The Nickname field is the name you will appear as to other
users. If the nickname you choose is already in use you will be asked for a
different one. If not filled out this will default
to Guest with a random number appended (i.e. Guest867). |
| Real Name Or E-Mail: |
The Real Name or E-Mail field is an extra field that you
can enter either your real name or e-mail address. You can also enter a
phrase or just about anything you want here. This
is not a required field. |
| Channel or Room: |
The Channel or Room (terms can be used interchangeably) is
the area where you would like to go to chat. All channel names start with
the pound sign (i.e. #Lobby). If not filled out
this will default to #Lobby. |
Users in blue with a @ in front of the names are
moderators for the room they are in. Moderators can control the channel
and kick, ban users from entering the channel.
Be sure to have the latest Java from Sun
Microsystems installed. Microsoft no longer develops it's
version of Java and it is out dated and may cause problems.
You can get the latest release of java from here;

Don't like Java or would like a different way to chat?
Here is a quick guide to getting your IRC software
connected to EqNET.
Accessing EqNET is simple as configuring your IRC software
with a new server and connecting to it.
Consult your IRC client software package on how to setup a new
server entry. At the prompt where it asks for the IRC Server address, enter
irc.equestrianpages.com
and at the prompt for port number, enter 6667 (the default
IRC port number). Enter your nickname, usually IRC client programs ask for
an alternative nickname if the one you choose already being used. That's all
there is to it! You now can select the EqNET IRC server and connect to it
just like any other IRC server. You can then list out all the channels and
join a current channel or create one yourself.

will work with EqNET. A Small List Of Supported

EqNET Chat Commands
These are some basic IRC commands that will help you get around on the chat
server and make you more comfortable with the ability to control your
environment.
First, all IRC commands are entered in the same text entry window as you do
your messages. The command MUST start with the
forward slash character ( / ) at the beginning of the line. Most commands
require optional input after the command such as a nickname
or room name.
/join <#roomname> - Joins a room. You
can be in up to 12 rooms at a time in EqNET. You switch rooms
by selecting the room tabs at the bottom of the java chat.
Example; /join #lobby
/leave <#roomname> - This exits the
room. You can also click the X in the upper right hand corner
of the java chat in the selected room you wish to leave and it will
exit that room for you. Example; /leave #equestrian
/msg <nickname> <private message> -
Private messages another user for private chat. You can also
double click on a username to open a private chat window to private
chat with other users. Private chats cannot be seen by other
users. Example; /msg SnowBlind Hey it's me!
/silence <nickname> - If you do not
wish to receive private messages from someone, you can silence them.
You will continue to see their messages in the chat rooms you are
in. This is reset every time you leave EqNET. Example;
/silence AnnoyingUser
/whois <nickname> - Gives limited
information about the user. Example; /whois SnowBlind
